McClure Engineering Co. Adds Drone to Digital Services

CLIVE, IOWA, July 19, 2016 – McClure Engineering Company (MEC) is excited to announce the recent addition of a new state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The MEC Survey Team will utilize the drone to capture photo and video of project sites for use during design and construction. McClure Engineering Company is an industry leader in high definition scanning, and the addition of the drone adds to MEC’s digital services portfolio.

The use of a drone will allow MEC to provide quicker and more cost effective video updates on projects for clients. There are many opportunities for using the drone which will save time, money, and improve safety.

“Drones can be used to inspect infrastructure in areas which are hard to reach in person,” said Josh Doughan, Survey Team Leader, “as well as delicate natural environments like wetlands, which could be damaged by bringing in equipment.”

However there are still limits to the drone’s capabilities. The FAA requires operators to pass a background check, hold a remote pilot certificate, and fly within certain parameters. In addition, drones cannot be flown higher than 400 feet or weigh over 55 pounds.

If you have questions about McClure Engineering Company’s drone, please contact Josh Doughan, Survey Team Leader, at jdoughan@mecresults.com or 515-964-1229.
