McClure Engineering Company (MEC) announced the hiring of Michael Kellam, AICP, as its vice president of business development for infrastructure and development services.
Kellam brings more than 12 years of city planning and community development experience to the company and will actively identify project opportunities, seek out and maintain client relationships, and contribute to the company’s continuous effort to help make life better, easier, and safer for the communities it serves.
Before joining MEC, Kellam was executive director for the Parkville Economic Development Council in Parkville, Missouri, where he — through the cultivation of personal relationships and marketing outreach — created an exponential increase in project activity, which later led to job creation programs and overall business retention and expansion in the area. His work there also allowed him the opportunity to get to know and collaborate with MEC leadership and introduced him to the firm’s passion for building and bringing communities together.
Kellam said he is eager to build on MEC’s legacy of engineering and surveying expertise. “I’ve always had a love for this kind of work,” he said. “It’s exciting to get to know and now have the opportunity to take part in a vision that actively changes lives and communities for the better.”
And he’s jumping right in. “The entire Kansas City metro area is well-positioned to experience huge growth and I plan to take advantage of the opportunity,” Kellam said. “People are starting to realize what kind of options are here and — from infrastructure driving economic development — MEC is ready to dive into that and help communities grow in a responsible and cost-efficient way.
“What I love about MEC is that it’s a one-stop-shop for clients in need of anything surveying, engineering, or construction related,” he said. “There’s a breadth of experience under one roof, from figuring out what your property looks like and getting the lay of the land to understanding what it takes to develop that land via site and land-use planning. We build partnerships start to finish.”
Kellam earned his bachelor’s in communications and public relations from Missouri Western State University and was named Parkville Area Chamber of Commerce Community Partner of the Year in 2016. He lives in Kansas City, Mo., with his wife, Sally, and two children, Cole and Kaitlyn.
