IOWA FALLS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT | APRON EXPANSION
The City of Iowa Falls tasked McClure to perform design, bidding and construction services for the expansion of the existing terminal apron. The existing apron only provided six tie-down stalls for itinerant aircraft, forcing aircraft to park on the turf during the peak agricultural spraying season. The expanded terminal apron included providing 14 tie-down stalls, more than doubling the previous capacity of the apron.
With the limits of the apron expansion extending to the Airport’s only taxiway, construction work within the taxiway safety area was unavoidable. McClure developed a sophisticated phasing plan limiting the construction duration within the safety area to a maximum of 14 calendar days to minimize the impact of closing the taxiway.
