RANDOLPH COUNTY GRS-IBS BRIDGE

RANDOLPH COUNTY GRS-IBS BRIDGE REPLACEMENT DESIGN

The wooden truss structure on CR 2580 over the Kansas City Southern Railroad needed of replaced due to its structural condition, geometry, and railroad requirements. McClure worked with the County and the railroad to develop an innovative solution. The new structure is a Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil – Integrated Bridge System (GRS-IBS) and was one of the first constructed in Missouri. The abutment design involves several courses of aggregate and fabric faced with a block wall. The concrete box girders bear on the compacted aggregate/fabric offering minimal settling. The innovative approach saves both time and money by simplifying the abutment construction process.
