Mickey Davis is Community Placemaker with McClure, where the placemaking team currently works to revitalize and reinvigorate communities across the United States and Canada, primarily in the Upper Midwest and Mississippi Delta regions.
A musician by training, Davis previously acted at Program Manager at the Association of American Voices, a cultural exchange nonprofit. There, he oversaw music-based cultural exchange programs in over 30 countries, including the American Music Abroad program, a U.S. State Department-funded music tour tracing its roots back to the famed Jazz Ambassadors program of the 1950s and 60s. In addition, he acted as program manager for the Youth Excellence on Stage (YES) music academies for aspiring young performers in both Iraq and Lebanon, and he helped start the Music Across Borders artist residency series in St. Louis, in which musicians from around the world lead workshops, perform in schools, and collaborate with local St. Louis musicians.
Prior to that, Davis served as the Program Director at the Des Moines Social Club, a nonprofit arts and culture center in downtown Des Moines housed in a renovated 1930’s Art Deco fire station which hosts over 800 events annually. He is the co-founder of the Des Moines Jazz Festival and previously ran the 48 Hour Film Project – Des Moines.
